Basic Guide in Tree Care

Follow these simple reminders in tree watering to ensure that your tree grows healthy throughout its life.

The most important process in tree care is watering especially for newly planted trees since they have lost nearly 90% of their roots during the transplantation.

You can water a tree twice a week. Make sure that your hose is set on low flow for about 15-20 minutes. This will enable you to deeply water the tree and avoid water from running off the surface.

You can either use a drip hose or take off the hose’s nozzle and put the hose at the base of the tree. Avoid using sprinklers as they can damage the leaves that are fully exposed to the sun. Using a sprinkler is also a waste of water as most of the water will only directly evaporate during hot summer temperatures.

Base your watering frequency on weather conditions and on the type and age of your tree. If your tree is newly planted, check it every 2 to 3 days.  When you touch the soil beneath the mulch, it should feel a bit moist. If not, your tree may need to be watered. But make sure to avoid over watering especially trees that thrive in hot or dry conditions.

Never let water remain pooled at the foot of the tree. Established trees only require supplemental watering in times of extreme drought.
