Safety Tips when Removing Trees Using a Chainsaw

  • Before you start, inspect your chainsaw. Check controls, bolts, chain tensions, and handles to make sure that they are properly functioning and make the right adjustments as needed.

 

  • Plan the cut. Determine where you should make the cut before turning on the saw.

 

  • Start the chainsaw on the ground with the brake engaged.

 

  • Watch for any objects that are under tension. Be very careful in bringing objects to the ground.

 

  • Know where the tree can safely fall. Make sure that the area is clear of hazards. Do not let the tree fall on other objects.

 

  • Find a clear and safe retreat path for you when the tree starts falls.

 

  •  Watch out for, spikes, nails and other metal objects before making the cut.

 

  • Make sure to remove debris, rocks and small tree limbs from the chainsaw’s way.

 

  • Keep your hands firmly on the handles and maintain a good and secure footing.

  • Never cut directly overhead.

 

  • Shut off or release throttle before retreating. 

 

  • Turn off or activate the chain saw brake when moving it more than 50 ft or whenever you’re crossing a hazardous terrain.
